Lena's Farm

Synopsis :

Lena is a music-loving farmer who lives on the edge of the forest surrounded by her many animals. Although living together in a group is not always easy, things eventually work out on this peculiar farm.

Benshi's review :

What do slugs and Brahms have in common? How about chickens and Chopin? A pig and Tchaikovsky? If the answer isn’t obvious to you, then hurry up and check out Lena’s Farm, an amazing musical series that gives plenty of space to great symphonic melodies while raising giggles by showing the endless adventures of life on the farm! The series consists of 26 stand-alone, animal-based episodes that combine to convey the whole spectrum of life on Lena’s farm. The episodes cheerfully flow from one to the other, each one focusing on an everyday adventure of one or more species, and always accompanied by majestic music from the Classical or Romantic era. To set the tone, each story starts with Lena, the caring and loving farmer, strumming Beethoven’s Ode to Joy on her guitar.

These short animated stories, with their simple lines and no dialogue, manage to wryly show, in just a few minutes, amusing, touching and powerful situations arising from community life and the reality of running a farm. In spite of the petty rivalries between animals and the difficulty of sharing the vegetable garden, each adventure ultimately highlights the value of mutual support, kindness and living together. What’s more, the series offers a subtle critique of the abuses of industrial agriculture through the character of a devious trader who, when the opportunity arises, is quick to take advantage of Lena's kindness. The young lady, meanwhile, never forgets to show her affection for the animals so as to maintain the harmony of the place.

All in all, over the episodes and seasons we get to spend quality time with funny and endearing characters who, together, remind us of the importance of such an ecosystem, all while revisiting musical classics!
