Whether lying on their backs or their sides, curled up against their pillow or their favourite plushies, every child has their own way of falling asleep … and guess what, so do the children of animals. Some get snug in their parents’ fur or feathers while others, such as baby crocodiles, actually get cosy in their parents’ jaws. In the series entitled Cubs, we are invited to check out several two-minute episodes that show us the peculiar sleeping habits of little animals. Each episode is animated by a different director. So, while this collection enables us to explore the animal kingdom, young viewers also get an opportunity to see a variety of animation techniques, sometimes several in a single episode – these include cut paper, 3D, puppets, painting, sand, black and white or solid colour backgrounds and more.
This original series also takes viewers on a tour of the diverse environments that animals live in, from the snowy mountains that are home to the Japanese monkeys to the deep oceans where the octopuses, sperm whales and parrotfish dwell, and not forgetting the bat's caves or the burrows that wood mice like to inhabit. All in all, this is a very gentle and relaxing way to get ready for bedtime, which is sometimes a trickier time for little humans than it is for animals!
