The Teeny-Weeny Fox

Synopsis :

In a big garden a tiny fox meets a young girl who loves gardening. She discovers that she can grow giant plants … and other things too! That gives the little fox some ideas, but the girl is not ready to let her new friend grow up …

Benshi's review :

he directors and screenwriters Aline Quertain and Sylwia Szkiladz gently invite us to discover the inquisitiveness of two charming little characters, but that's not all:

This little fox with an appearance of felt doesn’t want to be teen-weeny any more: he can’t hunt and he seems very lonely in the big garden. When he sees that the young girl can make things grow bigger, he’s ready to jump into the soil so he can shoot up too. Sadly for him, the girl doesn’t share that view and prefers to keep her new friend in her pocket! At the same time, she likes enlarging nearly all her things even at the risk of making them unusable...

These decisions make the dynamic between the characters more complex and interesting: is it right to stop a friend from growing up just so you can keep them by your side? Of course not, and the little girl will learn that to her cost. Fortunately, once the fox gets big, he bears no grudge and will even help his friend see more clearly.

The cut paper technique and the colours used enhance this charming story about friendship and redemption, which, thanks to its various layers of interpretation, can be enjoyed by young and grown-up viewers alike.
