The pocket man

Synopsis :

The pocket man lives serenely in a suitcase on the footpath. He gathers up all kinds of items to furnish his humble abode. But the pocket man’s comfort is disturbed by a pedestrian who keeps knocking over his home. As he turns his mind to vengeance, the pocket man learns that appearances can be deceiving!

Benshi's review :

There’s a little man who lives in a tiny box on a footpath in a big city: what does he see and what does he find out? He sees chewing gum, nails, keys, coins, rubbish and, above all, the shoes of passersby. And among these is a big pair of green boots that destroy everything in their passage, including the pocket man’s home, children’s toys and even a cat’s peace and quiet. Faced with this outside threat, the pocket man tries to get revenge by putting a banana peel just in front of his suitcase. The plan works and the unknown menace falls to the ground. That’s when the pocket man finds out that the destructive passerby is actually blind!

In just seven minutes this tender and poetic short film, featuring wonderful music, provides plenty of surprises. It teaches us that revenge is not a solution and also that, just like the pocket man, sometimes we don’t have all the information we need to read a situation correctly.
