A nice graduation film (by students at ISART DIGITAL school in Paris) that highlights a craftsman’s struggle against industrial competition but also, and above all, showcases the shoemaker’s love for his craft. He works with such skill and such passion that his shoes become “magic”. They come to life. Whereas the mass-produced shoes all look the same, each pair made by the little shoemaker is unique and precious. But as wonderful as that is, he quickly has to face the reality that his customers are more attracted by the ones sold across the road. Even though the situation could be ruinous for him, the little shoemaker finds a courageous and inventive way to save his shop.
The Little Shoemaker is a fun and mischievous tribute to craftspeople who constantly have to battle and summon new creativity to survive against merciless competitors. In an age of big businesses churning out convenient generic products, this is a lovely film to show kids!
