With her first short film, director Chaïtane Conversat transports us into a poetic and very unique world. A little girl collects pieces of nature to use as patterns for her dresses and ends up serving nature by allowing a seed to germinate in her tummy. This becomes the “little seed” that grows from her belly and then, when it grows into a tree, it, in turn, carries the girl. This, then, is a story about a genuine symbiosis between the character and nature, with the underlying message being about the need to make amends, in both the literal and figurative senses, for damage done. For this ecological tale the director chose to use sand – so that she could work in black and white graphics – and oil painting for colours, which are reserved for natural elements: water, fish, birds and plants.
