In this contribution to her series of silent adventures with her little bird, the German director Lena von Döhren shows our little hero caring for a leaf that has managed to resist the rigours of winter. The leaf becomes a staunch companion for the little bird, who is not yet able to fly. The bird is determined to look after it for as long as possible and even wants to nurture a new leaf when its first shoots appear on the same branch as spring approaches. The sensitivity the little bird shows to elements of nature that are still as fragile as it is extremely touching; it’s as if the little bird is the forest’s friend. And nature in turn protects the little bird from the fox, who is foiled by the toughness of a tree trunk and the brittleness of the ice on a frozen stretch of water.
In a forest covered in a blanket of snow, young viewers will enjoy following the dynamic adventure of a leaf, a little bird and a fox. This film offers lovely encouragement to be brave enough to grow up and gradually spread your wings. This story of a leaf that vanishes and reappears in line with the seasons could also be seen as a charming ode to the cycle of life.
