Like Rantanplan, the famous dog from the Lucky Luke comic strip, Chien Pourri takes everything literally, whether he is asked to go and see “over there if we're there,” or to imagine himself at the seaside or in front of the famous Statue of Liberty in New York while staying in Paris. But his inability to be suspicious and perceive bad intentions fuels an inexhaustible and highly contagious enthusiasm, which makes his candor a comic and critical strength!
In adapting the successful series for the screen (see Additional Information), the writers and directors (including the famous duo Patar and Aubier, authors of the famous Panique au village and Panique chez les jouets) have created a gallery of hilarious animals with larger-than-life human characteristics: the very snobbish Poodle and Basset, the jealous and slightly conspiratorial duo of Bulldog and Chihuahua, Bernard the rat, whose business acumen is matched only by his greed for pizza crusts, the devoted Chaplapla, and the charming Sanchichi... This little world evolves in a Paris sketched with mischief and delight, from the Canal St. Martin to the Eiffel Tower, via the Louvre Museum, the Sacré-Cœur, and even the Ile aux Cygnes, where there is actually a replica of the Statue of Liberty!
Comical and critical at the same time, the improbable and burlesque adventures of our hero gently and humorously highlight the sometimes absurd foibles of our society. Somewhere between Morris's Rantanplan and Voltaire's Candide, Chien Pourri is one of a kind, and we highly recommend following his adventures!
