Storm warning among the clouds! Nube takes us deep into the lives of these big but poorly understood cotton balls in the sky - which are sometimes perky and fluffy, sometimes dark and brooding – with a story that is intimate yet universal. By giving human characteristics to a pair of clouds that we can easily imagine to be a mother and her child, directors Christian Arredondo Narváez and Diego Alonso Sánchez de la Barquera Estrada give us a chance to learn about clouds. As we get completely wrapped up in their experiences, and human shapes and dreams are projected on to them, emotions run high.
Despite the sadness in Nube, the biggest take-away from the film is that there’s a cycle that brings hope and balance, and that an ending is also the prelude to a rebirth. And even though grief lies at the heart of the film, the overriding feelings are tenderness and love. Accompanied by a superb soundtrack, the beauty of the animation ably relays all the magic and poetry of the heavens while also doing justice to the vast expanses of the American continent, which is bathed in light so realistic that you might think you were actually there. So don’t hesitate to jump into this highly original adventure along with two touching heroines!
