The Ugly Duckling
Doesn’t Colorbirds remind you of this famous fairytale? The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen tells the story of a baby duck who is left all alone after being rejected by his peers because he doesn’t have the same bright plumage as them. He is uncannily similar to our little hero when looking at his own reflection in the water. Happily, the story ends well, as the ugly duckling transforms into a magnificent swan.
“Birds of a feather flock together”?
So why do the birds have colourful plumages? In Colorbirds several birds form pairs, the single colours they share attracting them to each other. In reality, males and females are distinguished by their plumages: one is brightly coloured while the other tends to look quite lacklustre. Having such vibrant colouring can sometimes help males seduce females, and its singing and dancing can serve a similar function.
