After School

3+

Synopsis :

When she returns to school, a little girl meets a small boy who has lost his way.

Benshi's review :

Children can see everyday mishaps as big adventures. Director Hanna Kim adopts the viewpoint of very young characters to tell the story of a chance encounter that becomes the catalyst for a moment of sharing, and a friendship that grows. Being a pair helps make the way back from school a playful journey where the obstacles are much easier to overcome! The highly stylised black and white world, interspersed with splashes of colour, and the accuracy of the perceptions bring to mind the universes created by Sempé and Serge Bloch – authors who also illustrated stories for children and about shared experiences. Sometimes one meeting can be enough to brighten up your day and change the way you look at daily life – that’s the conclusion that can be drawn from this simple and gentle story, and it’s as true for adults as it is for children!
